MESSAGE FROM FR. RICHARD:
I wish to send a word of thanks to all who have helped make the dream of our St. John the Evangelist (Waynesville) Family and Youth Recreational Field Possible! The new property has been cleared of trees and we are in the engineering design phase with the hope of a mid June target date for grading and pouring of our 10 foot+ retaining wall.
God willing, the parish hopes to build a gym on the property Spring of 2021 when funds are available. Anyone who wishes to help make our Mountain Gym possible for the Catholic Youth of Haywood County can email Fr Richard directly at [email protected] to a pledge from the heart.
Right now the First Methodist Church in Waynesville has the only gym in town and their youth evangelization program is growing. It is my hope and dream that we will have the gym facility for an after school program similar to that of First Methodist. A program for youth that focuses on offering a leadership formation and after school tutoring for middle school age youth with high school mentors assisting at core team of college age directors. There is so much we can do for the youth in these mountains with the proper facilities! I truly believe programs like what we will offer can offer a solution to the drug abuse among young people in these mountain towns. We are seeking prayers and support for this initiative of ours.
